Eating is a whole new process for your baby which may take a while to get your kid used to. So you need to gather all the patience available and hang around until your baby is around 1 year old or more coz every baby is different. This gives time for your baby to develop properly, so that they can cope with solid foods. If you think your baby is showing signs that they are ready for solids but below the 1 year age, then you need to speak to your child’s doctor for the right kind of advice.
Normally mother’s milk or baby milk formulas provides the required energy and nutrients needed until around 1 year old. It is the perfect natural food designed by nature to fulfill your baby’s nutritional needs during those early days. On a later stage your baby may require additional nutrients that cannot be obtained through milk alone. You can look for tell-tale signs such as if your baby is able to sit up well with proper head control, if he is able to pick up food and start self-feeding on own, or shows curiosity to get involved while everyone’s eating around.
Traditionally weaning is when you happen to feed your baby and gradually introduce your child to more solid foods as days goes by. Mostly to begin, it is often practiced by introducing smooth purees before moving to mashed cum tiny diced foods, followed by finger foods and small bites. It may take a whole lot of feeding attempts for your baby to get used to such new foods. Then there are few foods which you should never serve your baby without prior consultation from a doctor like honey, undercooked eggs, and whole nuts to name a few.
You can create the weaning process into a fun-filled experience by allowing your baby to play, touch with these newly introduced foods before serving one. It’s been observed mixing mashed or fruits & boiled veggies foods with a little breastmilk or formula milk can improve more acceptance. You can also try mixing baby rice cereal with mashed or fruits & boiled veggies along with offering small sips of water from small cups to familiarize your baby to drink from a cup. In most cases, it is been observed, that such practices on daily basis has shown positive results when it comes to adopting your baby to such self-feeding habits.
Now again, at times your baby may eat more on at times, and sometimes won’t even eat and at times even reject everything which is quite normal. As a parent, you need to be patient enough and keep on introducing such practices on everyday basis till your child is competent enough to self-feed without your active involvement
